Title

Military Scene

Description

The garb worn by the soldiers in this military scene suggests that it might’ve taken place sometime in the 18th or 19th centuries. It was in the early 19th century that Henri Christophe became head of the Kingdom of Haiti, claiming dominion over the northern part of the island. It was then that he also made Cap-Haitien, then renamed Cap-Henri, it’s capital. Though Port-au-Prince has been Haiti’s capital since 1770, Cap-Haitien is still known for many historical landmarks, including the Citadelle Laferrière.
