Belair, Charles. Haitian General de Brigade; Commander of the Arrondissement of St. Marc. Autograph Letter Signed, on his own letterhead, 3 pages 4to, Le Bon Mayant, 14 germinal, year 10 [April 4, 1802], to Toussaint L’Ouverture, Governor of Santo Domingo. A fine letter written during the war for independence against Napoleon. He writes that his aide will explain why he brought his wife to him and why he has kept her with him; he has sent the other women away as they would be a liability in battle and might be caught by the enemy.
