Photo of Nicole Smith. Owen Georges Leroy Photography. Born in Haiti, curator Nicole Smith began her career at the Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince before moving to the United States in 1973. In 1986, she founded the Nicole Gallery, which became a leading space for Haitians, Africans, and African Americans. Smith played a key role in advancing the careers of numerous artists and was widely recognized for her lasting impact on the arts community.
