Le Ferriere. When we think of Henri Christophe the builder, we think of La Ferriere, the Citadel, truly one of the world’s wonders. How many thousands of prisoners and workers died hauling the great stones and guns of La Ferriere up the 2,600-foot mountain. Some of the walls rise a sheer 140 feet toward the sky. The main gun gallery is 30 feet deep and 270 feet long. Its 200 guns are surrounded by thousands upon thousands of cannon balls.
